Fishing

With its high population of brown and rainbow trout fishing Manawatu River is a fantastic way to experience Te Apiti – Manawatu Gorge. Fly fishing and spin fishing are both popular in the Manawatu River.

For the full experience, head out for a half-day or full-day guided fishing tour. A great experience for all abilities.

 

ACCESS

Ashhurst end
Located approximately 15 km east of Palmerston North adjacent to State Highway 3. Turn off the road directly before the bridge past Ashhurst where you will find a small car park by the river.

Woodville Ferry Reserve
Located approximately 8km west of Woodville. Turn off State Highway 3 directly after Gorge Road/Ballance Bridge. Drive down the gravel track to the river.

A fishing license is required to fish in New Zealand rivers. Visit Hunting & Fishing on John F Kennedy Drive, Palmerston North, or purchase a licence online at Fish & Game.
